 Saturday, July 17, 10-11:30 am, "Open House and Free Garden Tour"  Join Dan and Betty in their gardens in Huntersland for a free tour of the gardens.  This is also Huntersland annual Rummage Sale Days. 

Saturday, July 24, 10-3, "Learn to Make Herbal Goodness from the Garden"  Do you sometimes wonder what to do with your garden bounty?  Come to this workshop to learn to make pesto (we'll use more than basil), herbal vinegar, an herbal syrup and other culinary delights.  Cost is $75 and includes a light lunch.  Email bpills@midtel.net to register or call 518-827-8730.

Sunday, August 15, 9 am - 1 pm, "Herb Walk: Weeds Underfoot" at Handford Mills Museum in East Meredith, NY.

Join Herbalist Betty Pillsbury of Green Spiral Herbs as she takes you along the grounds of the Hanford Mills Museum in search of common weeds. Once you learn the useful application of these plants, you will consider them weeds no longer. Plantain, dandelion, mullein, ground ivy - they all have purpose! Betty will demonstrate how to make infused vinegar and oil with plants that are collected during the walk.
Fee: $45 for Museum Members, $55 non-Members
 
 

August 26-29 - Betty will teach crazy quilt embroidery at the Crazy Quilting Days of Summer Retreat in Branson, MO!

This Retreat features 3 outstanding, nationally known quilting instructors coming together in Branson to teach the art of quilting embellishment and embroidery. Attendees will receive hands-on instruction from Betty Pillsbury who will teach “Crazy Embroidery" techniques. Jim Gatling will present a comprehensive session on embellishments, and Kathy Kansier will teach, "Creating a Victorian Purse".

This retreat includes 4 nights lodging in your own private room at the marvelous Howard Johnson hotel in the heart of Branson, MO, breakfast and lunch each day as well as a Thursday evening Welcome reception with wine and appetizers. 3 full days of quilting instruction( a 6 hour class each day, Friday-Sunday).

September 18-20, Geneva, Illinois

I am so pleased and excited to be able to finally announce that Betty Pillsbury will be doing a three day teaching program at Designers Desk in Geneva Illinois. She will be teaching September 18-20th, 2010. This town which is southwest of Chicago has wonderful shopping and dining, making it a great place for a girls outing.

Here is the information on the classes:
Sept 18; Crazy Embroidery.  Learn variations of classic crazy quilt stitches such as twisted herringbone, tied herringbone, triple feather, maidenhair, etc.  Learn why the chant "shoulder, shoulder, bellybutton" will help you stitch better.  1 day class fee is $75.00, plus any threads you many want to purchase.

Sept 19; Layering Stitches.  Learn how to layer stitch upon stitch to expand your embroidery repertoire.  Stitch herringbone over velvet ribbon and add French knots; ruch seam binding to frame a cigarette silk and sue a cretan/chevron stitch combination with crystals and pearls for lush results, plus much more!  1 day class fee is $75.00 plus any threads you may want to purchase.

Sept 20; Silk Ribbon and Beaded Bits.  Elegant silk ribbon is easy to master in this class.  Learn how to thread up, end off and the basic stitches of silk ribbon.  Create a lovely garden scene to incorporate into a crazy quilt, or use on a journal cover.  You will also learn a free-form chrysanthemum, bullion-tipped lazy daisy and a clever way to use up scraps of silk ribbon as small as 1/4 inch!  1 day class fee $75.00 plus any threads you may want to purchase.
