Unless otherwise stated, classes are held at Green Spiral Herbs in Huntersland, NY.  Contact Betty at 827-8730 or at bpills@midtel.net to get more information and to register for a class.  You MUST pre-register for classes.    Please show up 15-20 minutes before class start time, as all classes start promptly.

 Friday - Sunday, April 8-10, 2011, Glastonbury, CT.  An Adventure in Crazy Quilting.  Sharon Boggon, Betty Pillsbury and Allie Aller will be teaching.     This event is SOLD OUT.  You can have your name put on a waiting list.

Wednesday, April 27, 10-3, Crazy Embroidery.  Every crazy quilt needs embroidery.  But, sometimes traditional and art quilts do as well.  Betty will show you how to easily incorporate beautiful hand embroidery into your work.  Variations on herringbone, cretan, chain and many more stitches will be learned.  You will also learn how the chant, “Shoulder, shoulder, belly button” will help you form perfect feather stitches!  Cost $65.  Bring your own lunch.  Supply list sent upon registration.     

Saturday, May 7, 10-Noon, The Herbalist’s Table: Foraging the Back Yard.  There are many useful and delicious weeds growing in your yard!  In early spring, learn to identify, harvest and prepare some wild things.  Creamy Stinging Nettles Soup, Dandelion fritters and Chickweed Pesto are on the menu.  Cost $35.   

Wednesday,   May 11, 10-3, Bead Embroidery.  Beadwork can add lots of drama to quilts, clothing and accessories.  Learn to add beads to fabric, make traditional embroidery stitches in beads and create beaded fringe.  Cost $65.  Bring your own lunch.  Supply list sent upon registration.  

Saturday, May 21, 10-Noon, The Herbalist’s Table: Drink to Your Good Health – Herbal Teas.  Herbal teas, more accurately tisanes, are an excellent way to be introduced into the world of herbs.  Learn to grow, harvest and enjoy a few herbs that make good-tasting and good-for-you beverages.  Cost $35.   

 Wednesday May 25, 10-3, Crazy Quilt Piecing Learn the Victorian art of crazy quilting as you create a block or tea cozy.  This class is completely by hand.   Betty’s method won’t leave you painted into a corner and you will be creating your own art in no time!  Cost $65.  Bring your own lunch.  Supply list sent upon registration.

Saturday, May 28, 10-Noon, The Herbalist’s Table: Delights from the Garden.  Late spring brings us the opportunity to gather herbs from the garden and create Mint Syrup, Chive Blossom Vinegar, Herb Salad and Sorrel soup.  Cost $35.   

Wednesday, June 8, 10-3, Beginning Silk Ribbon.  Elegant silk ribbon is easy to master in this class.  Learn how to thread up, end off and the basic stitches of silk ribbon.  Create a lovely garden scene to incorporate into a crazy patch.  Cost $65.  Bring your own lunch.  Supply list will be sent upon registration.

Wed, June 15, 10-Noon, Herb Walk. Join Betty as she guides you through the herb gardens at Green Spiral Herbs.  This walk is free of charge.  

Saturday, July 2, 10-1, The Herbalist’s Table: Roses.  Roses are more than beautiful flowers – they are tasty flowers.  We’ll gather and cook organic rose petals for use in savory and sweet dishes.  We will also gather garlic (The Stinking Rose) scapes to make into pesto.  Cost $45.
