Betty Pillsbury has known and grown herbs since her teen years.  She spent her youth in the woods getting to know wildflowers.  She was making crabapple jelly by the time she was 12 and her grandfather's herbal salve when she was 15.  All aspects of herbs fascinate her - culinary, medicinal, folkloric and simply for their beauty.  Betty is a member of the Herb Society of America, The American Herbalists' Guild, United Plant Savers, and is President of Sage Talk, a local herb club.  She has had herb gardens in northern New York, England, the High Desert, and the Great Plains. Currently, her northern Catskills gardens hold more than 250 different herbs. Betty has studied herbs independently and with several herbal greats. She is an in-demand teacher of things herbal and embroidered.

Dan Pillsbury has always been fascinated with plants.  As a young boy he grew houseplants and collected mosses and lichens from the woods.  He fondly recalls mushroom hunting with his dad.  His military and post-military career provided him with training in pharmaceutical science.  Dan is a certified home-brew judge and shroom fanatic.

Betty and Dan have been married for 23 years and blend their unique perspectives into a cohesive whole.  From their early years together, spent with a dog-eared field guide so they could identify the wildflowers around them to  today, when herbs and their uses and lore have become all consuming to them, Betty and Dan love plants.

Additionally, Betty is a textile artist and instructor, traveling the country to teach crazy quilting and embellishment.  She has appeared on television on "Simply Quilts" and "Quilting Nebraska" and has created needle art for the White House. Betty has won over 200 awards for her needlework. In June 2006, one of her crazy quilts, "Homage to Ardelia" was featured at the Vermont Quilt Festival's special exhibit "Historymakers - Stars from the VQF Contest Archives."  Betty's articles and photos of her work have appeared in numerous publications.  To see the artistic side of Betty, please go to her other website, www.BettyPillsbury.com
